1. Coordinator : Municipality of Elefsina (EL)

Eleusis (Greek: Ελευσίνα Elefsina, Ancient Greek: Ἐλευσίς Eleusis) is a town and municipality in West Attica, Greece. It is situated about 20 kilometres northwest from the city of Athens. It is located in the Thriasian Plain, at the northernmost end of theSaronic Gulf. North of Eleusis are Mandra and Magoula, while Aspropyrgos is to the northeast. It constitutes the administrative centre of the wider area and the headquarters of the region of Western Attica.

It is the site of the Eleusinian Mysteries and the birthplace of Aeschylus. To divulge the secret of the Eleusinian Mysteries was only to the initiates. The site was the second most important in ancient Greece, after Delphi.

Today, Elefsina is a major industrial centre, with the largest oil refinery in Greece as well as the home of the Aeschylia Festival, the longest-lived arts event in Attica Region.

During the 21st century Eleusis is developed into a modern town which disposes of the distinctions of a glorious past.

The Archaeological Site and its Museum constitute areas of international promotion and tourist attraction. Furthermore, the Festival "Aeschylians", the cultural events organized by the Municipality each autumn, is nowadays an institution that gives the possibility of expression of modern cultural matters of the town.

Therefore, alongside with the economic development, the ongoing efforts for in-frastructural improvement and protective environmental measures, efforts are made from the side of public authorities, private associations and individuals, for rehabilitationof the spiritual character of the town, so as to be worthy of the heritage that bears the name "Eleusis".

On 11 November 2016 Elefsina was named the European Capital of Culture for 2021. Elefsina 2021, was promoted under the slogan‘Transition to EUphoria’. It is focusing on three main challenges facing sustainability – environmental, social and personal – and

aiming to answer the question ‘what would a city be like if art and culture were at the heart of every human activity?’ ThroughoutElefsina’s time as the European Capital of Culture, 12 major programmes (consisting of a series of artistic events) will be organised, one for each month of the year.

The year 2021 is also important for Greece as it will mark the 200th anniversary of the War of Independence, which led to the establishment of the modern Greek state. Ancient Eleusis itself dates back to Mycenaean times. In the classical era it was the site of a huge annual festival celebrating the cult of Demeter, but it was closed by the Roman emperor Theodosius in the 4th century AD.s punishable by death and for 1400 years these secrets were known.

2. 3rd Gymnasium of Elefsina (EL)

The school is situated in Elefsina, a city near Athens It is best known for having been the site of the Eleusinian Mysteries, one of themost famous religious events of the ancient Greece and the birthplace of Aeschylus, one of the three great tragic poets of the ancient times.

During the last 10 years 3rd Gymnasium of Elefsina has a dynamic presence in European projects and networks, as in e twinning Projects, Comenius, Erasmus + KA219. It has won a prize in European Languages Label and always tries to involve its students and teachers in innovative activities and keep in line with the trends of European educational policy.

The same block of buildings and yard are shared by another high school with a different school culture. This coexistence is not without problems, especially during the breaks.

The school has 275 students and 23 teachers. The majority of students come from middle to low socio-economic background andtheir profile is heterogeneous. There are some second generation immigrants mainly from Albania (approx. 15%) and few from countries of Asia or repatriated Greeks from Russia or Pontos (as it is called).

There is a small percentage of Muslims and Roma with usually high level of early school leaving.

The school unit has a fixed staff synthesis, without any significant staff movements. Most teachers are lifelong trainees participating in seminars, training courses etc, inspired by the same vision and ideas. The friendly climate enhances the collaboration and smooth function in every aspect.

The school organizes every year study trips abroad. The artistic performances (theatrical plays, musicals, etc), the focus on ICT and experiential activities and generally the participation of the school in any innovative action concerning education gives it a lead to

the preferences of the parents.
